    This is probably a stupid question but here goes;

    I currently have the old ITV digital box and I wanted a Tivo.

    As everyone knows Tivo's are like rocking horse s**t. So I have been considering Sky+

    I live in an apartment and already have a Satellite point in the wall. I have plugged a friends Sky Digi box into it and I can get all the free channels with a freeview card and all the channels with his sky card.

    My question is, if I bought a second hand Sky+ box and used a freeview card, could I use it like a Tivo, pause live TV, record stuff etc (obviously not using the Tivo susbscription stuff) or do I need to pay Mr Murdoch the ten pounds for his yacht...I mean for the pleasure of pausing/recording.

    Thanks in anticipation

    You'll have to cough up the £10 per month but your biggest problem is only having a single lead from the dish. You need two satellite points for a sky+ to function fully.

    Thanks Dave

    My guess is it's not going to be easy to get another connection from the Communal Sky Dish through three floors.

    How would the Sky+ box react if I just plugged it in, would it act like a normal sky box?

    Yep, just like a normal box, no pause or recording but you will get s-video and, perhaps more importantly, DD5.1 on channels that support it.
