This morning my sky HD box has had a software update saying Sky Store has been updated. Finally you can get a blu ray instead of a dvd sent to you. But also you can just buy a digital copy only. The price structure is:-

      Digital copy only - £9.99
      Digital plus dvd - £13.99
Digital plus Blu Ray - £16.99

Looking at Sky Store this morning only certain titles have all three options available. For instance Wonder Woman and Transformers The Last Knight has all three options available where as The Mummy is only available as digital only or with dvd. A lot of titles are still just digital plus dvd. pre orders at the moment have no choice available.

Good to see these changes. Not only that you can now get Blu Ray instead of a dvd but you can just have a digital only copy for £9.99. Blu Ray option is quite expensive but this is Sky so it was always going to be.
So what do you think? Will you be trying the blu ray or digital only option? Or do you think £16.99 is too much? I am collecting nestle products for a £5.99 Sky Store voucher so may put that towards a blu ray option or I could get a digital copy for £4.

      Anyone else had the update?

      Didn’t have the update.

Those prices are way too high.
Regardless, I still favour a hard copy over digital, plus I’m now a 4k convert, so these options don’t mean anything to me.

Still, good to see they’re playing catch up lol.

Looks like you're one of the lucky first few to receive the R018 update this morning. Just wondering what version you received, what's the Model Number shown at SERVICES > SETTINGS > SYSTEM DETAILS

Support for Sky Q will be added in a future update, which hasn't yet started to roll out.

Looks like Sky Store website has been updated so its possible to order a film with a blu ray on there or a digital only copy then send it to your Sky box. Then I believe it will be charged to your credit card and not added to Sky bill.

I suppose its slightly better than the previous options. Having the option to view something immediately and then get the Bluray in post later on it OK I suppose. The previous DVD only option was ridiculous - I haven't bought a DVD version of a movie in donkeys years - all movies have been at least on Bluray for last 10 years.

But as OP said, it is on a movie by movie basis still - must be big fight between Sky and movie studios to allow them to sell/post their physical discs with a digital download.

Still think studios prefer the "unpirate-able / un-share-able / un-resell-able / will completely disappear in future" secure download-only option for everyone.

Maybe I should just get rid of subscription to Sky Movies now... don't think I get value from it and hate having to wait months for something to appear after it is in shops and Sky Store.

Buy a digital copy and you are tied even further into your Sky contract. Leave Sky and lose your movie!

No, you should still be able to view the movie on a Sky Store compatible device other than the Sky box, e.g. SkyStore.com, iOS/Android app etc.

Leave sky and still have access to Sky Store to play back purchases on compatible devices.

You don't have to be a Sky subscriber to purchase Sky Store movies , you can still play back on compatible Sky Store devices.
