Sky Sports with no Sky Q box - Virgin or NOW TV better?

I've decided to subscribe to Sky Sports for the first time. I watched a few Premiership matches on NOW TV last season, and found the picture quality awful, especially compared to the matches broadcast on the BT Sport 4K channel through my Virgin Media box.

I've since found out that the poor quality was due to not having NOW TV Boost which would have increased the resolution to 1080p and improved the frame rate, which was the main problem.

I'm happy with Virgin overall, so won't move to Sky Q just for this, so I'm left with two options:

1. Pay Virgin Media an extra £31.75 a month to add Sky Sports to my existing package.

2. Pay NOW TV £25 a month (£20 deal on Sky Sports, £5 for Boost), cancel anytime.

The £6.75 saving by going with NOW TV would be welcome, but if picture/sound is still going to be better through Virgin, I might be tempted to go with them.

Has anyone tried both? Are there any other differences or considerations?
