    From http://www.digitalspy.co.uk

New Sky digibox software is to be released later this month according to information posted by a member of the Digital Spy forums.

The download will be rolled out to digiboxes from March 14th onwards and is thought to include the following features:

    • Blocking of specific channels at all times or only after 8pm (e.g. due to adult content) by using a PIN.
    • An option to highlight channels which offer audio description or subtitles.
    • Subtitles able to be turned on or off from the Search And Scan Banner.
    • Now and Next listings for the radio stations.
    • The ability to set the interactive symbol (red dot) to automatically disappear after 30 seconds. However when viewers change channels it will reappear but only for another 30 seconds.
Another download is also scheduled for a later date but no timescale has been given. This will include slight modifications to the EPG background, a facility to remove the adult channels from the pay-per-view listings via a menu and changes to the radio area of the EPG.

Good to see them working on the red dot issue, now if only they did it on all the other logos. then we could say goodbuy to screenburn

This is Sky, "Later this month" could easily turn out to be November. A 30 second timeout is scant appeasement IMO.

Glad to hear about the easier subtitle setting. My mother-in-law is deaf, and having to go through the box setup to turn them on and off when she comes over to stay is rather a chore.

I would like to see a 1 sec removal of the red dot. If I am watching a program with the red dot I instantly remove it, can't wait for 30 seconds for it to disappear, then reappear when the adverts finish.

Pity there is no mention of an audio delay for Plasma owners.

I do hope the forthcoming HD box will have this, a crime if it doesn't.

I'm not sure that would be technically feasible. Only so much can be done in software. Not all plasma owners suffer from this - mine does not have any problems.

Unless you had the hardware in the box - ie memory that can be constantly written and read to/from you're right, software won't cut it.

I'm worried in case this software update stops the current workaround for getting rid of the red dot - ie pressing the backup key. I use an automatic system which sends a backup command every few seconds - I'll be miffed if their update stops it working cos then I'll have to put up with the damn thing for 30 secs longer than I do now!..

anyone know if they ever plan to let people choose more favourites, organise channels into lists, extend the on screen tv info to go beyond the 5 hours ahead, saught out the tv listings so i can choose which channels i want to view listings of?

for me the whole sky experience is let down by the way the software limits how i control my viewing, when so many peices of equipment with less tv channels has much better options for how you watch them.

never really noticed the red dot i got use to things like that since most tv stations feel the need to logo the heck out of things , developed a logo blind spot.

This was heavily mooted to start mid-month - but so far - nothing.

I ssuspect that a downlod was planned but something horrid happened at the last moment and it has been postponed.

There will be a new download at some point - but it may be someway away.

I know for sure that they plan to increase the number of favorites, it was in a recent Sky Magazine.

I wish they'd sort out the frequent sound drop-outs I seem to get on the UK channels :(
