I have had recording problems for about a year now with SKY+, resulting in many engineering visits and digibox changes. Eventually SKY said that the problem was a software issue and should be resolved once your digibox has received the new download. You will know it's been done when the colur scheme changes on your EPG. Also, you will then have much greater parental control facilities.

Hope this helps. :hiya:

Hi setmac,

I and others are experiencing this since the recent (few weeks ago) update by Sky. There are a few threads on this forum (The Stuck on Pause is one). This update has caused pixellating, failed recordings, and other glitches. Someone mentioned on another forum that Sky knows about this and is hoping to do another update soon to rectify this (we hope!)

Hi swhxd06,

It is the new update (which gave the attractive light blue background) that's causing all the problems.

I too had lots of Sky+ problems a few years ago. Sky kept giving me refurbished boxes, which failed (four in a few months). Eventually I rang them but didn't rant, probably sounded close to tears in fact, and the sympathetic technical help man said they would send me a brand new Pace box (this was before Amstrad were available). It arrived in a few days just before Christmas. I found all the boxes were being changed without them switching off the mains power, which you're meant to do. One failed immediately. I told the "engineers" it said in the manual never to touch the connections without disconnecting from the mains, and they said they knew what they were doing. When the precious new box came, I switched off the mains myself before they installed the new one.

Maybe Sky will take pity on you too, I hope so.

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for your message. Ironically, I now no longer have the new parental control facility. The update had been done on my old digibox, which then developed a loud buzzing noise. Anyway, SKY came and changed the box (again!) but at least they gave me the new 80gb (which apparently is standard now on new installations) digibox. I have had one failed recording since but will have to wait and see what happens when I get the new software update.

Incidentally, a new EPG is on it's way soon - see digitalspy.co.uk for details.

I can't wait to see how big a hash of it they make when the new HD box makes it' s debut!!!!!!!

Hi swhxd06,

I'm glad to hear you had a new digibox, I hadn't realised they now had 80gb capacity, that's excellent. I hope it won't be corrupted by the new software update. My box is a new Pace 3, bought online six weeks ago as I wanted a Pace box, and I cannot record anything at the moment even whilst watching the same programme. Some days we could not get programmes on Sky apart from BBC1. Also pixellation and sound corruption occasionally, and other odd faults, it's so maddening as it worked perfectly until the update.

I had to laugh at your comments about how big a hash of it Sky will make when the new HD box makes it's debut. Apparently the Thomson 160gb boxes have sound problems and Thomson have been chosen to produce the HD box.

Sky+ is wonderful 90% of the time, but this present bad 10% is so infuriating.

I'm off to look at Digital Spy concerning the new EPG; I have one eye on the computer and the other watching Taggart, which we are now watching on terrestial tv; the joys of technology!!!

The odd thing is that the hardware that has led both the launch of SKY Digital and SKY+ has proven to be pretty reliable perhaps down to having a single code base which would have had far greater testing than any that followed it.

I think problems at least on the hardware front come about when savings are being made with more integrated chipsets and manufacturers and perhaps SKY squeeze the margins too much.

I have sky and i am thinking about getting either sky + or a recordable DVD / Hard drive. Can you record sky onto a DVD recorder / hard drive? If so how do you set it for future recordings? can anyone help?

Go to channels 998 and 999 on Sky - they have a rolling demo of Sky+ there. Tells you all you need to know.
