I am intermittently having problems viewing programs recorded on my Sky+ box. When I go into the planner and select a program to watch it pauses and then returns to normal TV.

It has done it twice now in less than a month and the best sky can come up with is to reset the box entirely which wipes the hard disk. What is the point of recording anything???

No wonder they have stopped charging for this rubbish....

    Any ideas?

    Cheers
    Rob

Did they tell you to reload the software?
If they did and you did plus a system reset still hasn't cured the fault then get them out to fix the hardware if you are under warranty.

    Ah right.
Yeah I bought mine from Currys and they would have been responsible for any warranty work if I had needed it.

There has been talk on digitalspy that lots of people are having problems with BBC programs doing strange things like this. May be worth checking it out.

in my experience, most recording problems have been due to temperature
The 120 GB / 7200rpm disk I fitted was running (even) hotter than original.
Search forum for Sky+ disk cooling

Apart from this I've only had a few more cases of recording erros and they were mostly just a few weeks ago ovre a period of a few days.

I recorded Have I got News for you on friday and when I tried to play it back the box locked up. I could select between starting positions for the program but hitting select didn't play it. I couldn't get back out of that screen either, backup and sky button didn't work. If I hit the power button it went into standby but when I hit the power button again it just went back to the same screen.

Had to pull the power in the end.

Same problem here. It would appear to only happen on programs recorded on BBC1.

I was honestly thinking of buying one of these sky+ boxes, but now think ill stick with my ntl box!

My question here has to be, how long have people had these boxes? the people experiencing the problems, thing is, if you buy from comet or dixons or whoever, they are liable, not sky.
More to the point, if I had purchased one and it had gone into gremlin mode it would be back in their storeroom collecting dust, and I would have my money back.
If you have problems like this, just take it back and demand a full refund, if they will not give you a refund, offering to have it checked out or offer you a replacement, if this is what you do not want, you are entitled to cash back, sale of goods act, end of story.

I would still recommend the sky+ box.

Most of the problems reported on this and many other forums are usually very minor quirks that will be ironed out in software updates.

It's just that in this cynical world hardly anyone wants to sing praise for anything. Just report the negative aspects.

However if your interested some good points are.

Ability to pause and rewind live tv. :smashin:
Watch one channel and record another. :smashin:
Recorded programmes don't have the red dot, or the reminder displayed. :smashin:
    Lots of widescreen programming. :smashin:
Some dolby digital broadcasts. :smashin: although there have been a few problems with this. :thumbsdow I spoke to sky technical and they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. :smashin:

Personally I am really impressed with Sky+, even despite the few minor problems.

It is a great box.....when it works.

Not just BBC1 - I recorded time commanders (.....why am I admitting that?) off BBC2 and it jammed.
