sky plus box use in multiroom

I have Sky plus and sky multiroom. I have just got SkyHD so the Sky plus box is spare. I assumed it would be easy to swop with the multiroom box and view the saved stuff, and record the single feed channel. Nether of these are 'allowed' cant understand why that is? Is there a way to make this work??

Who says they aren't allowed? That's certainly how my multiroom was setup. Sky HD in living room, Sky+ (with a single cable initially) in bedroom. Got two cables to both boxes now, of course.

Which cards are being used in the receivers?
I assume that the card that was used in the old Sky+box has now been re-paired to work in the new HD box and that the card in the standard box is now being used in the Sky+ box.
If so, then this may answer a few questions
