Although strickly speaking this should be posted on the cables section I thought it would be of more interest in the Sky Plus section.....

I have just purchased a SKY Plus box and I want to ensure I get the best quality picture from it.

I have seen these two cables that I am considering buying:

Profigold PGV7405 5m Scart to RGBS Cable : SKU PGV7405:
    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PGV7405.html

    and:

Profigold PGV372 1.5m Component Video to Scart Cable : SKU PGV372
    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PGV372.html

My projector is a Sony VPL-VW10HT as per the following link:

    http://mysite.verizon.net/dmunsil/VW10HTFaq.htm

and I have what looks like two sets of five component/RGB connections on it that according to the FAQ above are called "RGBHV".

Anyone any ideas as to the best cable to use ???

    Thanks!

i`m not sure the 2nd one will work as the sky box dont put out a component signal.

I see, appologies here (I am just getting used to terms here) but what types of video output does the SKY PLUS box output ???

I am aware I have the option to use use SVideo and Composite connections but whats all this RGB / RGBS / Component / YPbPr stuff ??

I guess the rule of thumb is the more separate cables for the video the better...

My current Sony box has an option in the menu for the video format output that can be changed between RGB and PAL - Whats this mean ? and does this come into play when using separate cables ??

    Any more ideas ??

pal is another word for composite on sky boxes and is the worsed connection.

you can use component from the sky box is you use a rgb to yuv(component converter)

    www.rgbtosvideo.com make the best

rgbs is rgb with seperate snyc if your plasma /projector can take this then i would use this way.

rgbhv is rgb with the snyc on the horizontal and vertical.

Thought so - RGB is it then !

Hmmm....£145 to convert RGB to component seems a little expensive:

    http://www.js-technology.com/rgb-yuv/index.htm

I think the five inputs on the side of my projector can be switched between RGB and component inputs (i'll check and post later).

So it looks like I am going to be OK as a minimum to get one of these cables as it has a straight forward RGB connection:

Profigold PGV372 1.5m Component Video to Scart Cable : SKU PGV372
    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PGV372.html

But does anyone know if these type of cabkes are "directional" as I notice on the above link that it has descritption of "3 RCA/Phono connectors to scart connector" ??

The next possible enhancement is the RGBS cable (RGB with Sync) but does the SKY box output the Sync as well as RGB ?:

Profigold PGV7405 5m Scart to RGBS Cable : SKU PGV7405

Ok I have a headache now....

I have also managed to find another company selling these kind of cables:

    http://www.keene.co.uk

They seem to also have somthing similar:

SCART TO 4 PHONO RGB TTL SYNC (C2RGB OUT) (2.0M)
    http://www.keene.co.uk/cgi-bin/codesearch.pl?SBB52

SCART TO 4 PHONO RGB COMPOSITE SYNC (2.0M)
    http://www.keene.co.uk/cgi-bin/codesearch.pl?SBB62

but whats the difference between the TTL SYNC & COMPOSITE SYNC ?

They also do a SCART to RGB with separate Horizonal & Vertical Sync cables:

SCART TO 5 PHONO RGB Hsync & Vsync (2.0M)
    http://www.keene.co.uk/cgi-bin/codesearch.pl?SBB82

I recon that the last cable listed above is what I am going to go for and just keep my fingers crossed

    Thanks
