As a PS3 owner, this news is actually quite impressive iF true. I can't get SKY but makes good sense, especially as it looks like IPTV with BT has fallen by the waste side.

If it was a subscription service which allowed you to download/ watch/ rent SKY content like they do on PSP without a satellite dish, i would would buy a 360 in a heartbeat.

Keeping my eye on Microsoft now at E3

If one of the features of this involves Sky Movies subscribers being able to download movies on-demand then it would be very impressive.

Yep....thats what i'm hoping for.
You can do it on your PC or Laptop if your a movie subscriber so it would be good to get it via the xbox for ease of use

Never going to happy I'm sure, but I'd love to see pay per view football available through LIVE via this joint Sky partnership.

I refuse to pay for a Sky subscription as it would only be the football that I would get any real moneys worth from, if I could do it through LIVE though paying with MS points I could be tempted as I would just be paying for the content I actually want.

Heck, if the price was right I might even be tempted for HD highlights.

I'm probably getting well ahead of myself to be honest though, this Sky partnership will probably just end up just being Dream Team re-runs :)

Actually, one things they will really need to sort out is the HD size and prices. 120GB will soon end up being too small, and they need to be realistic with pricing. You're paying for the console, for the LIVE service, the games, the online content... at least make the storage place you want to store it all a reasonable price.

it will only be decent for those that have decent internet connections
the UK internet infrastructure is not really up to something as huge as netflix as majority dont have great internet

could be pretty good on us actually getting some good content though - lets see if Munkey is just hyping us up though :D

I just can't see the point of this. Surely you'll at least need a dish, and some kind of box to decode the Sky signal? If you've gone that far, you might as well just get a Sky+/HD box.

If it gives you access to the Sky Player (which I've never used), then it makes more sense, but I'm not sure if the pricing will entice that many to sign up. Currently PPV movies are £3.95 a pop. Not sure how that works out compared to the current movie offerings.

Sky Sports subs are a fiver a month, not sure what the PPV rates are for big matches.

I cant see what this is trying to achive actually.

If you want to watch sky channels, you will have got sky tv by now.

With a HD box at £50, no one is gonna buy a 360 to watch sky.

Depends what they are showing, i have SkyHD and they only thing that will interest me is if sky subscribers can download films/sports to their 360.

If Sky just want to use the 360 as a reciver for PPV films then fair enough.

it'll probably be sort of an on demand thing and so not extra equipment needed

It'll be via the internet rather than satellite, like Sky Anytime.

My guess is Sky subscribers will have access, just like Sky Anytime. Movie downloads are part of that service which is what I assume they'll be adding to LIVE. There is no PPV football any more, it's all subscription based. I'd guess there will only be highlights packages available at most.

I'd love to have another Sky box, but I'm not paying £10 a month for it. This would be an ideal way to cut out the need for multi-room. The better half is often watching stuff, so a way for me to watch something else at the same time is ideal. That said, they may well be asking for additional payments for this, but I hope not.

Not everyone can actually get Sky.

If you live in a listed building then you have to get planning permission etc just to put the dish up. If you live in a flat it can be even harder, normally you have to get a group of people that want it and sometimes permission from the freeholder.

This does sound good though. I was thinking about getting HD but a recent notice of redundancy has put those plans on hold so this might be a good stop gap.

As a subscriber you get free access to all the online content so the xbox is just another way to deliver that content. Fingers crossed it will be free to exsisting subscribers, I would be surprised if it wasn't.

I thought Anytime was delivered via the dish onto the STBs hard disk. My Sky box isn't connected to a broadband connection (just a regular phoneline).

Sky Player is not really an answer to that, as there are only a limited number of channels for live viewing: Sky Player

It makes sense since they wouldn't want to give stuff away for free if they can charge a tenner a month for a multi-room sub, but it makes you wonder exactly what they're going to be announcing.

Don't the HD boxes come with a Ethernet port ?

Sounds interesting, I've got Sky HD and the movies package. I have plenty on my planner and the new movies each week are decent plus there's Anytime but an extension of this with loads of movies on demand would be great.

Hopefully it would be free if you had Sky and/or LIVE and they'll abolish the HD movies as I seriously doubt many people watch them.

Sky boxes do indeed have ethernet and usb but they aren't active. It's thought they'll enable them at some point for their own on demand service but as others have mentioned, the UK infrastructure can't really cut it for the majority so I'm not sure how they'd go about it - been discussed a little in the HD forums before.

Perhaps the 360 will allow you to stream on a good connection but it's more likely that it'll download it to your HDD and you watch it from there.

I certainly think (and hope) it's a type of streaming/download service as it's then available to those who don't have or can't get Sky.

So there is an ethernet port on the back of a Sky HD box. Would be amazing if you could stream stuff from your sky box to your Xbox but I doubt that will be the case. Far more likely you will be able to stream sky anytime material over the internet. Eitherway, every place I have an xbox I have a skybox too so I doubt I will see any benefits. For the hundreds of thousands of kids & teenagers that have xboxs in their rooms but Sky in their living rooms this could be what they are waiting for

You can watch Anytime (or is it called something else?) from anywhere eg an internet cafe abroad. I'm pretty sure it's like iPlayer, but Sky, and you have to log on with a valid subscription.

The 360 could be another way of watching Sky for existing subscribers and new users could pay a small fee to access Sky content.

Football would be a huge plus. I'd take a football sub if I could ignore everything else on Sky.

Be nice if I had access to some HD material through my 360 as I only have normal Sky+, we'll know soon enough :)

Sorry, you're right, Anytime is on the STB. Getting my services confused.

Hmmm, but an extended service on LIVE would perhaps attract more subscribers? All speculation at this point, I know.

Interesting...

I'm sure I remember an announcement a few weeks ago about about TV shows coming to the UK marketplace, so it could be that Sky are providing shows from their channels for it. If it works like the US marketplace it means everyone will have to pay for episodes of shows, Sky subscription or not.

It would be great if its a Netflix-like on demand streaming app for Sky shows/movies. On Demand is one of the areas that Sky needs to improve in, and is vastly behind in what Virgin Media offer.. most of its current hardware wouldn't be able to cope with any On Demand service (apart from the HD boxes), so perhaps this is Sky's work-around to offer on demand to subscribers via the TV for customers (who of course own a 360).

Will be interesting to see what it is.. I'm putting my money on that Sky are providing TV Shows for the video marketplace that we'll all have to pay for!..Now, some sites are reporting the announcemnt is tomorrow and others are saying its Friday, would be nice to get the proper date..?
