As i have no phone line i read with interest the recent thread regarding a payment of £25 to have sky without a phone line.
So, i just phoned sky to be told yes that's correct a one off payment of £25 but only on standard sky not sky+.

So it appears i still can't get sky+.

I queried it as i thought updates were via satellite-aparently it's only the box software updates and package/channel updates are via the phone.

Does anyone have any info on this???Surely if the lack of line doesn't affect normal sky then it won't affect sky+ as standard must still be updated too?

    I desperately want sky+!!!!!!!

    i thought so too!

the chap said its if they add new channels or change my package or on screen menus etc... and he said if it wasn't connected it will slow down over time without the updates.
Should i phone back and push further???

Yep. He is telling you a load of codswallop. Phone line is only for checking your box office purchases and for interctive stuff, nothin to do with software updates etc.

Yep the phone line plays no part in the updating of the OS or the EPG, it is purely a system to allow easier use of PPV/interactive offerings, multiroom security and pretty handy for online checking of your statement.

I suspect that SKY+ is exempt from the £25 deal due to the fact that the T&C's allows SKY to collect viewing data, impossible to do without a phone line.

well phoned them several times and no joy. The £25 phone line exemption only applies to standard digital not +. For plus the marketing companies still want to monitor our activities i suppose.
Bugger. Right who's got a sky plus box and dish they want to sell?!!

I would also assume it is to do with the popularity of the services - with HD coming before too long and all the cheap deals on Sky+ I would imagine that regular sky is going to become increasingly unpopular - it is better for sky to offload these to people it was originally saying no to rather than end up with a massive stock pile.
