    Hi all

If this has already been discussed - sorry. If someone could let me know which box is preferable - an engineer is coming next week (£49 deal with refub box). I have heard there maybe a choice of units I can ask of him....I currently have an Amstrad. However, I am not clued up as to which one is better.

    Thanks.

Pace BSKYB3000 (the "mk1" SKY+ box) suffers Hard Drive failure and, possibly, tuner failure. It doesn't work well outside the UK because of poor tuner design. But it can be modified for digital output.

Pace BSKYB3100 (the "mk2" SKY+ box) suffers Hard Drive failure and software issues. Tuner is excellent for fringe reception areas outside the UK. Some reported problems with fans and with noise. Sometimes has problems with "magic eye" remote extenders.

Amstrad DRX-180. Software issues and various types of picture interference.

In addition, all SKY+ boxes have intermittent problems such as recording failure and loss of recordings.

The new Thomson 160 (model?) is largely unknown.

On balance, the Pace BSKYB3100 is probably the least bad.

The 3100 is usually the easiest one to upgrade the hard drive on.
