Hi - I don't know if this has already been said but i just saw a bit of 'Mrs Doutfire' on Sky One and it was in widescreen! Does this mean we are going to get more tv episodes on sky one in widescreen also?

    I saw this too.

I use Telewest rather than $ky so it looks like they may be moving to W/S at last.

I would have expected them to give a W/S feed to satelite views first though so well done for making it available to all.

Selected programming on SKY1 and SKY1 mix will be in widescreen along with the SKY movie channels, although it is unlikely the existing 4:3 prints of US imports will be replaced with 16:9 prints. As time goes by I expect the percentage of w/s material too increase and hopefully the final season of SG1 will be in w/s :)

I'm sure the expense (New hardware etc) required to transmit DD5.1 on suitable US programming is minimal especially if done at the time as the expansion of the movie channel specs.
I feel it's a lost opportunity for SKY, why not make the most of SKY+'s audio capability both on SKY1 and even their music channels.

5.1 is also being added were possible to SKY broadcasts. This is a policy started at last week in combination with more widescreen broadcasts (and obviously the termination of a dedicated w/s movie channel).

The programmes are not always flagged as 5.1 which at the moment is the only problem.

This will however be a SKY only investment and there as no plans for cable at present (i'm with NTL so not impressed by this:mad: )

Perhaps the advertisers don't consider the programming has enough viewers to go to the expense of supplying SKY with replacement 16:9 adverts :)

This is only happening on Sky Premier 1,2 & 3 though - not Sky one or Sky one mix...
