I've had sky+ for two weeks now and there is an audible noise when the hard disk is turned on, almost like a very high frequency whine.

    Is this normal?

Working in IT I don't recall hearing a noise like this before. It isn't the stepper motor and appears to be the drive itself.

    Does anyone have this too?

I had the same problem with my first box, it is the hdd and not the fan .

I've since had the box replaced, the 2nd box doesn't make this noise.

I agree though that it doesn't sound much like a typical failed\ failing hdd. I've been a PC eng for 11 years and must have changed 1000's of hdd's and I've never heard anything like this before apart from some 2nd hand refurb Maxtor disks that my company have been buying which are total crap .
