I would like to run a poll to see how many of us are having problems of any kind with our Sky+ box’s, as of last Tuesday 20th when the last software update 1.28.d was done.

Could you please vote as one of the following and I would include the box resetting / tuning off as a fault.

Can I suggest another set of options:
'It crashed during the upgrade but now seems ok'

Thanks for all the voting  a very good and helpful response, 20 out of 52 have had problems  bad Mr Sky.

The bottom line seems to be that most of the issues can be fixed with multiple full systems resets or by a full format in a PC then a full system reset.

How this helps you guys out :smashin:

Also I would like to comment (Rant :censored: ) on the mention of this update causing hard disk failure in some Sky boxes.

I work in IT (Surprise surprise) and specialise in hardware support, I have about 8 years of hardware experience in all things hardware and deal with a hundred odd H/W calls a day on PC and server systems.

I would say that I am 100% confident that this software update or for that matter any software update to any system will NOT be able to cause any type of HDD failure in anyway.

When is comes to a heat issue, I do not think this will be a problem in a Sky box in a normal room environment without a cooling fan failure, the company I work for sells All-In-One PCs and these have a standard PC HDD in a area where the air space around the drive is about 5cm above and about 1cm around the sides of the drive with no extra cooling without long-term issues.

There are only two things that I can think that may cause a failure in this system :lesson:

1, A faulty drive that expires prematurely coincidently at the same time as the update.

2, A power spike to the system (Most probable as a lot of power cycles are being run) from a power related incident like a power cut or lighting strike.

If you think you have this “drive failure issue” try error checking the drive in a PC and formatting it as 99.9% of all HDD failures are caused by

1, Drive just keeps clicking (Unable to read it at all in PC)

2, Damaged sectors / heads (From and impact sometime in its life)

3, No power to drive in a known working PC.

Sorry to go off on one like this but this hit a nerve when there are people asking for advice and all they get replies saying that the update has fried there HDD go buy a new one :nono:
