Do you have any links to these whispers as the £10 pound charge has been the main thing stopping me from getting sky+.

Back up your statement with something or withdraw it.

The SKY+ subscription for the forseeable future will only be waived under certain marketing promotions, recently the combined SKY+/Mirror deal or a direct sales offer to an existing SKYworld subscriber and then only for a set period.

No doubt as more subscribers downgrade and new subscribers tail off there will be more moves by SKY to make the SKYworld package look better value, this probably will mean cheaper mirror deals and other services which would be free if you stayed on the main package.

i have spoken to 2 departments at sky+ and they are both saying different things
one is saying that they are thinking about it and the other is say no they are not in my opinion i dont think they will but if they do it would be great all round for all of us,but my gut feeling is saying no they won't at this time. we will have to wait and see

I just rang sky and asked them if they had any special offers for sky+. I explained that I had seen the install sky for £1 offer but I wanted sky+. The lady seem to dither before saying no. I think I'll keep trying.

rulett - how did you manage it?

rulett - looks like we have been talking about the same thing over two threads.

I guess you need to do something to trigger sky into making the offer. I'm guessing that you subscribe to the full package with Sky for a while and then downgrade. This makes sense because other businesses do the same thing.

rullet - is this what happened? If so how long were you on the package prior to downgrading?

Our friends at Sky would not give me the free 5 week trial period deal (I tried three times). They did say I could send the whole lot back after 30 days if I wasn't convinced - but they would keep the £50 install.

    How very accomodating......

I called Sky today and they said just for *special* customers the £10 can be waived. I am in shock as I just don't believe they have actually done it the greedy money grabbing b******ds

Well, this is news to me. Took out a SKY+ subscription in September last year. Got the box for £199 + £50 installation. (special customer you see) No mention at the time of the £10 fee being waived. However, received a £10 credit each month until February 2003. I am now being billed for the extra £10! I have had SKY digital for nearly 5 years now and have had the topline package for 4 years.
Now, should i contact SKY and ask why i am now having to pay the monthly fee? Perhaps i am not just special enough:confused:

    Hi..

I too have been on the top package for years now.... and I had Sky+ installed within a couple of weeks of its release.

I've just spoken to Sky this morning and despite my best attempts they just wont budge on the £10 a month.

The only ploy I didnt try was cancelling my entire subscription, which I am tempted to do.

Anybody got any advice on the best approach? I do hate companies that are inconsistant.. BT are the same.. :(

    Mark.

Tom - that is fantastic, do you mean no £10 sub ever never?

Vintage Mark - sounds like bad news for you but this is SO inconsistent!

SKY started offering the SKY+ subscription free of charge just before christmas as long as you bought SKY+ from them and had the existing digibox relocated and using the mirror card and stayed on the SKYworld package.
Very simple and straight forward marketing, the number of people willing to pay £25 a month for both services was minimal so by offering them both for £15 makes both services appear to be better value. Of course neither service costs SKY more than a few pence to provide and so they are laughing all the way to the bank.
The problems have occured because SKY have been offering different deals to many new and existing subscribers which due to the internet we are all aware of and wonder why we don't get offer A or offer B but get offer C which isn't as good.

They are test marketing a no £10 deal to see if it could be used to lock people in to teh full £38 package, as a lot people (like me) have come off the full monty.

The test involves ringing people at random, and there's nothing you can do to get on the list.

Once they have the results, you might expect it to be generally available - but only if you are on the full whack.

Is this reliant on having a mirror sub as well ? or is this being offered to those who only have Sky+ and no 2nd sub

You have to have a second box and take a second subscription. I am on the same deal as Tombarr though I think it is no £10 for the first year only & will then be reviewed - I received a flyer about this before Xmas but have only just had Sky+ installed.

Even then they tried to charge £15+£10 and claimed to have no knowledge of the deal the first 2 times I called. Called a third time and the person I spoke to knew what I was on about and cancelled the £10 a month charge. Guess it depends who you talk to so just keep trying.

I got it for £30 instead of £60 as I am having a second subscription too. Bad thing is, I have to wait until next Thursday to have it done:( .
