My Sky+ box is out of warranty soon. Based on the notes I've read here I'm coming to the conclusion that the only thing which ever breaks on these boxes is the hard drive. I'm on my third box in 12 months and it's been the drive every time.

Has anyone ever had anything else go wrong which wasn't fixed with a reboot/reload of software??

If the disc is the only thing which fails then I think I'll take the gamble and be ready to replace the disc should mine ever go again.

    Regards,

    Derek.

Moving parts are always the main things to go, and the HDD is the only moving thing in it, so....
Bearing in mind that a years sky + warranty is about 100, and you can get 2 x 160gb drives for that, and they'll have a years warranty of their own anyways.

Any moving part will be inclined to be less reliable than the electronics (friction causing wear and tear etc) .

So your number one and number two trouble makers here are the fan and the hdd

Noisy fan’s and failed hdd’s are common faults in PC’s . I must have changed 1000’s over the last 11 years of being a PC field Engineer.

Da, I forgot about the fan too, but they're cheap as chips anyways.
