With the recent court case regarding the Greek sports channels and the successful outcome, does it now mean Sky could sell you a package for Spain and if so will they?

The recent ECJ judgement has changed absolutely nothing - it has merely clarified the position that has existed for years, that it is not criminally illegal to purchase subscriptions from any provider in the EU and use them anywhere in the EU. It is merely the terms and conditions of the contract you agree to when purchasing a subscription that allows the provider to turn that subscription off if you contravene those terms and use it outside the territory he has agreed with programme providers to allow its use in - a matter of civil contract law. At present no EU provider is likely to break their own contracts with programme providers such as the various football leagues and movie companies. So until contracts between broadcasters and their providers run out and new ones are negotiated then no-one is going to risk the wrath of those providers by supplying outside their territory.

So although the ECJ has clarified the legality of doing so it does not force any provider into doing so or allowing use of their cards outside their territory. So forget all the hype in the newspapers and other media it isn't going to happen for some time if ever. If it does ever happen then it will almost certainly lead to an increase in power and reach of the major four or five European providers (Sky, Viasat, Canal+ etc) and the demise of most of the minor providers (on satellite and possibly going terrestrial only) as they are outbid for the EU wide rights for programming and have no major titles/events to offer their viewers. Basically the pubs and clubs (and the dealers and installers servicing them) have opened a can of worms that could decimate satellite providers across Europe within the next few years.
