Switch off sky+, unscrew the case with a 'security torx' bit, unscrew hard drive mounting bracket, pull off HD power cable, pull off HD ribbon cable, take out HD ... put in new HD and reverse procedure ...

Sky+ keeps its system in ROM so will take a blank drive inserted out of the box (unlike a tivo ;-)) and format it itself ...

Maxtor DiamondMax (fluid bearing) models are silent and go up to 120Gb ...

Are 120GB drives the max size for Sky+ ?

You can put in a 160GB, but the box will only recognise 137 GB. That's the maximum. I didn't think the extra 17GB was worth the extra cost of going to a 160 drive as opposed to a 120.

since I upgraded the box has worked fine, but I notice that the fan is on all the time - even in standby. Sky+ is now noisier than my HCPC which i spent a lot on to make it quiet:(
