I am trying to play the Sky high definition sample .ts file that I downloaded from here using the elecard filters in windows media player 10, and it is playing at a rate of about 1 video frame per second.

Does anybody know how to play this file at an acceptable rate? Usually I can play wmv-hd 720p or mpg content smoothly without problems.

If I need to convert it to mpeg2 first, I just need to know how (HDTV2MPEG isn't working for me).

    Thanks.

The Sky HD sample is in MPEG4 H264 AVC I believe (though not using all the "options"?) This requires more "grunt" to decode than MPEG2 AIUI - and not that many codecs currently support it.

Any conversion to MPEG2 will take a lot of processing - it isn't like converting a transport stream containing MPEG2 to a programme stream, the transport stream contains MPEG4.

Have you tried playing it using VLC? (VideoLan.org)

Is there the full version anywhere ? It plays almost ok with the Elecard player

"Sky is commited to HD because our customers expect us to keep inovating"

Hmm, not very catchy is it ?! Does'nt scan well or corparate whatever the term is

The clip really has no value as a demonstration of what the SKY service will be nor what H.264 is capable of. Even with the filters in place my P4 3.2 is still not capable of providing a silky smooth playback which is the norm for playing back mpegII and wmv HD files.

So unless it's an exercise in PC hardware/software I wouldn't bother and just stick to the other HD media files that are legally accessible to show off HD:)

Yep Apple QuickTime 7 has same processor eating capabilities when playing back HD content in its native H.264 format.

H.264 takes much more 'grunt' than MPEG2 or WMV-HD to decode.

I've tried it but with no avail on VLC, with my P4 3.4ghz and 512 ram, I freed up as much RAM as possible, but no luck.

I have tried many media players to watch this one. Most crashed. I have tried ones with new HD codecs. The closest I got was with VLC when I got sound and an occasional frame.

same for me on my 3ghz p4
i guess you need a super fast pc or a hardware 264 decoder as the sky box will have.
