Help!

Just upgraded the HDD in my V2 Pace Sky + box, said on the hummer site to run housekeeping, which I did, box turned itself off after a few seconds, I waited over 45 mins and it didnt restart, so I turned it on manually, watched tv for a few mins, pressed pause and I get a message to call sky. I used the maxtor 250gb drive (6B250R0 Diamondmax 10). Was I impatient, is it normal for the box to go off and should I have waited for it to restart in its own sweet time?

Ive just ran the housekeeping thing again and am waiting for it to restart this time, I'll give it an hour.

any suggestions please before I chuck the 40gb drive back in and relegate this new drive to music server duties?

thanks

If the HDD is set up correctly (Cable Select - CS), then I guess it could be faulty.

it was on CS, had a search on another forum and it seems this series of Maxtor has compatibility issues and somebody described the same symptoms, ive chucked the 40gb original drive in it until I find somewhere with a recommended drive model in stock

Not being one to give up I've just thrown a Maxtor 200gb 6b200P0 in it with no problems, i'll have to find a use for the 250gb so, in my experience I would NOT recommend the use of a Maxtor 6B250R0 Diamondmax 10 in a version 2 Pace Sky+ box, I tried a firmware update and it had no effect on the 250gb

I had a few problems initially with upgrading my HDD (a Maxtor 250Gb but not the Diamondmax 10). I had to do a low level format on the drive after each failed attempt. On the third attempt it worked fine. Doing absolutely nothing differently. It might be worth trying that.

I think maybe 250gb is a little ambitious! The 200gb maxtor seems to work fine - I've been using it for over a month with no problems. I've not gone beyond 60% free yet - and I've been busy. I think if I used even the half of the rest of this drive, the planner would be too full to navigate anyway!

True. I've got 250Gb and only ever used 52% at peak. The planner does get mighty full indeed. What we could really do with is "Page Up" and "Page Down" functions on the Sky+ Planner. That'd make life much easier. I wonder with the Sky+160 here whether that could happen!

i reformated it(full zero write, 36hrs ish) worked for a bit then crashed

swapped for old WD 80GB, which is ok ish, till i get a 160/200

Mine has been using a Diamond 9 200Gb for about 9 months now, with few problems.

Been using a 250GB WD (Aldi cheapo, £80) and it's fine, usual fan noise though so I've got one of the Maxtor 160GB 5400 QV drives from Technoworld thats gonna go in as soon as I've copied off all the stuff to DVD-R. Thanks to whoever for the ch+ / ch- button page down tip!

Hi adeyb

Thanks for the information about using the + and - channel buttons to "turn the page" on the planner. I've had Sky+ for a year and never realised that; I always found it an irritation to have to use the down button all through the planner. Maybe I didn't read the manual thoroughly as I was too anxious to play with the new toy!

I learn something every day on this forum, which is why it's so fascinating.
