    Hi,

Strongly considering buying a new TV, Samsung UC40C6000' Panasonic TX-P42G20B and more under consideration, however I only have a standard SKY box, do I really need to upgrade to SKY HD and if I buy the TV is it reasonable to get the engineer to set it all up for me when he fits the new box?

If you want HD TV then you need a HD receiver.
Why not wait and see what the current SD looks like on your new TV, then decide if you want better?
Sky installers fix the cables from the dish to the receiver and from that to the TV, and make sure it's working.
They're not engineers and they don't do anything other than their installation.
