I introduced the inlaws to Sky with the M&S vouchers about a year ago. They had the option to go for Sky+, but managed to get Sky HD WITHOUT the subs for £99 installed. The reason is that they usually only watch the Asian channels, Star Plus and Zee TV. These dont broadcast HD, and Sky agreed to give them the box for £99
Thereafter for about 3 months they were being charged for the HD subs, but after some complaining, this has stopped.

I tried for the upgrade, and was told that the charge would be £399. Couldnt refer to the in-laws a/c as it was against Data Protection.

Has anyone else managed to get HD without subs ?

I am afraid no way around this. You cant have Sky+HD with out taking HD
pack and subject to 12 months conract. This is mandatory and not able to
exclude from your package. Unless someone else knows something different.

You can always purchase the Sky HD box from an independant installer and either self install if replacing an exisitng sky box or have the independant install for you. That way you ahave the HD box and access to BBC HD & C4 HD without having to take the sky HD sub or be locked in for 12 months.

I also want the Sky+ multiroom (which also £10) and free broadband. Want to get rid of BT and save the £20 I give them for BB, but I dont want to end up paying Sky the £20 I save !
