I currently own a HD box but dont have a subscription.

If i order just normal Sky+ with sky sports etc will i get the free HD channels like bbc ch4 etc?

ive got a HD box so i can use the single line functionality but would be good to know if i can get the free HD channels as well without paying the silly £10 a month they charge.

Yes you will receive the free HD channels if you don't subscribe to the HD pack - just make sure that the CS operator you speak to doesn't activate the HD Pack as well at the time of setting up the Sky TV subscription - they do tend to do it automatically.

In fact, if you try now, you should find that you have BBC HD, ITV HD (needs manually adding to other channels) and Luxe HD, without either a Sky subscription or a card in the box. Once you add your Sky subscription and get a Sky TV card, you will find C4HD there as well.

Why the "will"? You should have that now, and the two or three others apart from C4.
Also, do Sky even need to know you have a HD receiver?
