    7:15pm Monday 13th March 2006 on Channel 5

The teaser gave the impression that the whole program is devoted to Sky HD. It show guys sitting a mixing desk, a guy at an OB truck and a camera man filming football.

I saw the last 10 minutes of this gadget show tonight, what a laugh, the guy was comparing three portable players, an i pod v blah and blah.

The crucial criteria if I remember correctly were ease of use while mopping a floor, looks, and sound quality.

Sound quality was compared between the three by the presenter listening to one channel normally and the other being played having been "sealed" using blue tack to a broadcast quality microphone so we could join in!

I look forward to some highly enjoyable HD comparison tests, hopefully involving the presenter watching half the picture out of one eye while wearing a patch with the rest of the picture being displayed on my 14" portable so I can join in!

ha ha ha, i wonder how they will **** this one up, every review that grey haired bloke does doesnt count as a fair review.

like he will compare one camera in a car for speed, the other in a jet fighter and the other on a rollercoaster. doesnt seem like a fair review does it?

i hope the slaphead on this weeks podcast thing gets the review as he tends to be fairer in his reviews.... tho the plasma vs lcd test a while back was a bit of a fudge too

The tests were fair enough. Which one could be controlled best with one hand, which sounded best and which looked best. The iPod came out tops in tests 1 and 3. It drew with the Toshiba in test 2. The creative had c*** SQ. All this comparative did was to confirm that there is still not a genuine "ipod beater" on the market yet

Maybe not, but you can still use it to remind you of the show about an hour before it starts :hiya:

Actually, the iPod was beaten in the past by other HDD mp3 players (the iRiver iHP-1xx series was easily better than the iPod of the time).

However, Apple have upped their game and haven't been afraid to ruthlessly update their product with the result that the current iPod really is a contender for 'best HDD MP3 player'.

I think that The Gadget Show is a joke, for serious info on gadgets look elsewhere.
For example in the Laptop feature the baldy said "There are three types of Laptop", what a comedien!

Also, the editor of Stuff magazine earlier in the series said the Zen was better.
Personally speaking, i have an iPod for the car and a Zen for when i go walkabouts. The Zen beats it hands down, and i've never heard any distortion on it at all.
I think his reviews are about as reliable as an Italian car :D :rotfl:

Well there are three general classes of laptop, desktop replacement, portable and ultra portable or as I think he called them Big ones, little ones and ones inbetween. ;)

It's sometimes got interesting stuff but yep you do need to take any judgements they say with a big pinch of salt.

My favourite was the alleged biggest survey of what the UK thought about the internet, strangely enough (for an online survey) most of the UK thought the internet was really important!

I'd say it's on a par with current UK paper Mags as far as indepth unbiased reviews are concerned but at least you get to see a few interesting toys on the tele (bring back Tommorws World! :smashin: ).

Will be interesting if they actually cover Telewest/NTLs HD plans as well as Skys', at least Telewest have starting rolling out boxes to some areas (although Sky probably won't let them have any content yet ;) ).

I would say about 25% of the Gadget show is of a bit of interest and the rest makes me angry at how bad it is.

But then trying to cover a lot of things in a programme is not going to work. But with the ipod challenge they should at least done more research. i.e. at the start here is a list of players we have looked at and the top 3 are these and now we will do further tests. I straight away I said where is the iRiver or the Philips players.

the tests by the women on that does pretty fair tests, for example puts all 3 devices through the same type of test. but it does p you off when they did one where they stuck one on the helmet, one on the back and the last on the handle bar. how the hell is this the same they need to compare each one in the same place.

the concept of completly fair test is lost on them

It's just a bit of telly entertainment, based around gadgets. As such, take it with a pinch of salt and don't expect serious analysis of the alleged subject matter. Like 'Top Gear'.

Bookmarked it on Sky planner - which just says:

    "Cult show for gadget lovers"

Maybe they put a wrong letter in for "L" in cult......

The GS is meant for Joe Public not the anorak of which there are few compared with so called 'normal' people :D :D :D

Jason Broadbury is a bit of a genius with his home made gadgets. Bit like a big kid, reminds me of Bob Tomolski who was on Technofile years back

Technofile is back on Sky News btw but onlty 10 mins now :-(

I have to stand up for the Gadget Show - I enjoy it, I find it interesting and I make sure I don't miss it.

I don't watch all of it - but then if you really are interested in AV you won't watch it live - will you? You can always fast forward through the bits that don't appeal to you.

Recently they have been doing guides on simple things like buying Laptops and Formatting your PC - which I thought were really useful. Maybe it's me.

Long live the Gadget Show - and down with all Gadget-Phobes.....:smashin:

agree - the gadget show is the TV equivilant of T3 or Stuff magazine...
i.e. reviews are flawed and facts are wrong....but its good "coffee table" TV...

Remember when Jason Bradbury (the bald one) visited LG and
said that they invented HDTV!! ha ha somebody should do
a bit more research and then names like Eureka and muse might
be imprinted in the gadget show dictionary.
