Sky HD RF signal to amplifier

Hello

I have a sky hd box that has a coax cable in rf2 that goes to my loft where I have a digital bypass amplifier. I also have a digital aerial that is connected to the amplifier that sends freeview round the house. When I use a combiner/splitter to get both signals into the amplifier the quality of the picture is terrible (I've connected both individually and the picture quality is excellent therefore no cable or connection problems). Is there a combiner I can use that will combine the 2 signals without losing picture quality? Or do you have any other suggestions for getting good quality free view and sky around the house?

Thanks for your help

Hi and welcome to AVF.
An obvious question first, have you tried various channels for the Sky receiver's RF output?

Not that I know of.

You need to change your set up. The antenna input should go direct to RF in on the Sky box i.e. not to the amp. Then your RF2 out cable will be the only input to your distribution amp.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. The RF channel is 68 so I presume that's far enough away from terrestrial not to make a difference. I was hoping you would'nt say the aeriel has to go into the Sky box cos that's a pain in the bum for me but I suppose it's the only way

Thanks again

It's called "an aerial diplexer". However, I can't guarantee that your pictures will be perfect but, with the correct choice of diplexer "crossover point" and sky RF channel, they should be a lot better.

Never assume/presume. Do you know what your terrestrial channel numbers are?

68 is the pre-set channel and as it's giving bad results there must be something interfering with it, as often happens, so you need to change it.
It usually goes into the Sky receiver's Aerial In socket, but that is not the only way, and it does not have to be done.

The terrestrial signal!

The OP has stated that both work fine independently but both degrade when combined!!

Yes - that's what I meant by "something" - we agreed on that in posts 2, 4, 6, and 9.
