My wife has set the box to record a few films on various channels and only had half the film. On looking into it today I noticed that some of the channels have a short news or info slot an hour or so into the film and the film continues after it. We also realised that when the planner is being set to record (on some channels) it comes up with the option to record once or record series. We wondered if selecting the option to record once is why the second half of the film is missing. Obviously not all channels have this info break so some films are recorded fully. So should we be selecting record series?

The series link would only work if the broadcaster set the EPG data for the film to be a series and not all do (if any). You need to check those channels EPG and set both halves of the film for record to be certain.

    >set both halves of the film for record to be certain.< Thought we would have to do that, is it me or does this seem to be a recent'ish' thing. Seems only to have been happening the past couple of months. I know in the past you would have to do that to cover the news in the middle of a film, but these info slots interrupting films seems to be more prevalent now.

If there are two (or more) separate EPG entries then any PVR will treat them as separate programmes unless series link is set by broadcaster and used on the PVR.

Last night went to record a film, and the pop up came on, 'record once' 'record series' so hit record series. Film duly recorded in two halves, there was an info/news break in the middle. So to watch the film you have to watch the first half then go back to the planner to watch the second half. Is this a work of genius or what, can't believe this is the only way to do it these days. Easier to just download it from the net!
