Quirky question, but any ideas if you'll be able to watch one HD channel whilst recording another / record 2 HD channels at a time?

I would imagine the recording/watching facility to mimic that of the current sky+ boxes. So yes, record 2 channels at the same time whilst watching a previous recording or the simpler record one while watching another.

Will the recorded images be of less quallity (picture wise) than the original live?

There used to be speculation of reduced PQ from the existing Sky+ recordings, but have to say I never really noticed.

Also will the recordings eat up more hard drive space due to HD?

Nope, the signal is recorded uncompressed and one of the reasons why the record capacity can vary as some programs have higher bandwith than others.

So no degradation in quality compared to live.

No, the quality will be the same.

That's because there wasn't any reduced PQ. The Sky box dumps the received bitstream data straight to the hard disk, and it's played back through the decoder in the box.

Yes, they will. 2 to 4 times the amount.
