Hi all. I've been trying to search the web for an answer to my problem, but can't seem to find one.

    Right, here goes.
I have a Samsung Blu ray 5.1 system which has one optical input.
I have an Xbox 360, Xbox one and Sky HD box which I would like to connect to the 5.1.
I have bought an optical switcher which allows the 3 devices to be connected to the 5.1 individually with a turn of the switch (1,2 or 3).
Both xbox machines work as they should via the switch regardless of what port they're in. Sky on the other hand, doesn't want to know.
I've tried all combinations of cables in and out and I can't get it to work. The switch is fine (all ports work).
Sky only works when connected directly to the 5.1 and not through the switch.

    Any help/or advice??
I'm massively confused as to why this wouldn't work! All sky settings are set as they should be.

    Many thanks in advance.

Does your Sky box have a co-ax digital output and does your Blu Ray system have a co-ax input? If so, use that for Sky. (Your Sky optical output is not strong enough to survive the losses in the optical switch.)

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, the 5.1 doesn't have a coax input.
Is the Sky box optical really that naff that it can't go through a 6 inch switch?! If so that's really bad.

They are built to a price.

It used to work on a switch for me, but Sky machines are notoriously fickle.

'I have bought an optical switcher which allows the 3 devices to be connected to the 5.1 individually with a turn of the switch (1,2 or 3).' - and like many folk you find that switch is not such a great design, you may want to return it and try another sample or try a different design of switch.
