I'm currently considering getting a Rear-pro DLP HDTV-ready TV and linking it up to my HTPC, in preperation for Sky's Hi-Def service. The only thing that worries me is how would I go about inputting SkyHD into my PC?

Obviously I'd want to use the HDMI connection, but is there any way to get HDMI signals into a PC, or is there an alternative solution. I realise that SkyHD is at least 3-4 months off (probably more), but I wanna start buying the bits piecemeal so it'll all be ready for about september when I move into my new place.

Obviously if this isn't possible I should still be able to run SkyHD into my TV alongside the PC. But what happens if I want to use the HDMI connection for both (and also potentially for Xbox360)? Is there a HDMI splitter/switcher you can get? And if so, how much are they?

Thought I'd resurrect this question as Sky now seems to be saying early HD boxes will ship with component connections as well as HDMI. Would this make it possible to do 720p via component into the HTPC for scaling - and then output to the TV via DVI? Any thoughts on the best hardware for getting the component signal in (sweetspot?). Pressumably the HDMI route (into the HTPC) would be much harder given the copy protection on the signal?

    Any thoughts?

I have a solution for you, there is one device I can think of at a reasonable price which can accepts 480P/720P/1080I, it connects to your Pc via USb 2.0 and has stereo phono and SPDIF input, it's basically a breakout box, but the only way to get hold of it is when you buy Pinnacle Liquid Edtion 6 Pro, as it comes bundled with it, but you can pick up for just over £300 if you get the upgrade edition...

To buy the upgrade you must already have a copy of Liquid Edition or Adobe Premier. The non-upgrade price is nearly 500 pounds.

I don't see what advantage this device has over the SweetSpot which is only 150 pounds http://www.pluggedin.tv/item--SweetSpot-Video-Processor--PITVSS001

Does anyone know if the sweetspot handle 720p, or 1080i for that mater? Website only claims 480i and 520i.

Sweetspot does not support ED/HD resolutions(480p/720P/1080i), this device does as well as sound and your not buying it for the software, but the hardware, it should come with WDM drivers so you can use it in any program you want to capture, the software supplied is suppose to be pretty good to, if you want the full version of the software buy the full kit for £450, but for the box buy this, you can't get the box alone, i've tried

Why don't you go check the website and find out, or look for a manual, or look at the reviews..., there is a lot of info out there if you take the time to look...I done the job of finding the device, which non of you would prolly come across otherwise, now one of you buy it, and let me know what it can do..., I might go to the pinnacle site and try and get them to lend me one..., I doubt it though, I tried to get them to sell me on, claiming that I broke my one and they said the only way to get one was to buy the upgrade package, i'd happily pay for it, If I could test one out first and find out it's capabilites, but all them review sites are more into the software that comes bunlded with it than the hardware...

what an odd attitude. You posted on here about an item which you correctly guessed I have not heard of before. I asked you a single question about its functionality and got that back.

tbh, I'm perfectly capable of searching for the info myself but it seemed you knew a bit about it so I thought I'd ask you. Sorry if that offends you in some way. If it does then might I suggest that you don't bother posting about anything again, people are quite likely to ask questions and as this so clearly gets your back up it may be better to avoid the situation alltogether.

I've been a regular poster on here for some years now and have always found it a very useful source of information, it's rare that people have little outbursts like your's, maybe you'd be happier on avsforum?

    regards,
    owain

You were bullied a lot at school weren't you ? :rotfl:

You're 100% positive that the pinnacle can capture 1080i analogue component ?
I can't see any indication that liquid edition can capture in hidef other than HDV.

meansizzler, I think you should take a chill-pill and stop with the attitude before you attract the attention of some Moderators who won't stand for it. Seriously.

i'm going to have to stick up for meansizzler here.....i mean c'mon, it seems most people these days, what their questions answered, without actually doing any effort themselves.

I was on another forum where the question was, "What is the difference between the Asus A8N-Sli and the Deluxe?"

To which i replied, "Why not goto the Asus website and have a look?" And the amount of slagging off i got was unbelievable....

yes, lets all stick up for an obviously arrogant little child who sulks at people asking him genuine questions and throws abuse at people.

I warn him that any further negative comments from him will be reported.

If you want to seriously discuss this I'm more than happy to take it offline and that includes you meansizzler, but stop with the petty bickering and try and stay on track with the original thread subject.

HAHAHA, I was at the Xda-developers website once, an basically you have to spend like 30 minutes looking through 50 different threads to get an answer, and if you try asking someone, well they expect you took do all that looking, i mean i find myself going over a single thered like 10 times just to find an answer hidded in one of the posts, I think you lot have it easy over here, if i don't know something I usually just type the quesiton into a search engine, or if it's something like "what is sattelite radio" or "how do credit cards work" well i just go to www.howstuffworks.com , it;s a pretty neat site which hasa load of information about anything you can think of...

Spoon feed me a bit more then because I cannot see any mention that it can capture analogue 720p or 1080i.

The image above is the timeline properties of a HDV clip ...doesn't tell us anything about its analogue capture capabilities.
