I'm about to upgrade to SKY HD, but I can't justify multiroom. I have a TV in the lounge, connected by a magic (coax) to my tv in the bedroom. I have a Sky HD projector in my cinema room. Does anyone know whether the magic eye coax delivers HD and whether you can get really long HD cables to split the lounge TV and run it to the projector and if so would there be picture loss

Magic eye co-ax from RF2 delivers SD only I'm afraid. I have one of the old boxes and it has various options for HD output , Im not sure whats on the new boxes but if theres no extra HD outputs then you could always used a Distribution switchbox with the HDMI , such as a 1 in 2 out box.

With that you would also use the co-ax for switching channels.

if you want to split the HDMI output from the Sky HD box into 2 outputs (one for the TV, one for the Projector), then I'd definitely recommend this little box of tricks. Dead cheap, full 1080p and each output can run a 15m HDMI cable. If you need any longer then you could always buy an HDMI extender which are also reasonably good value.

Then for the TV in the bedroom you could either use the magic eye coax to get SD picture (no faff at all), or (depending on how long the lead is) run a 3rd HDMI (in which case you'll need a 4-way splitter) or you could do HDMI over cat6e. Does get a bit expensive though.

The new Sky HD boxes only have 1 HD output which is the HDMI out. No component or anything I'm afraid.

    Cheers Jez

I think you've cracked it. Magic eye for SD in my bedroom, I can live with that and run an extension using the splitter from my lounge. Brilliant thanks.

Another option where you don't need a splitter, run HDMI to one TV and run component to another TV, both ways you get HD picture. Quality is in the eye of the beholder, I prefer the component picture over the HDMI :) Planning to do this option myself, so HDMI to bedroom (via HDMI over cat), component to lounge

The newer Sky HD boxes don't have Component out unfortunately.

Ok finally received my new HD box. Set it up. SKY sports on 108" screen is something to die for.
