Got this letter from Sky today.

Looks like you can get the install for free without taking multiroom.

Not sure if those not entitled to the offer might get away with it.

Looks like they're trying to push Anytime to users with older Sky + boxes (and get another £10 HD sub).

I would think it's targeted first at those with the older Sky+ box so they can get Anytime since it offers a new Sky+ box as an alternative.

If you have any premium channels then it's more cost effective to drop them and have HD on a six mix whilst keeping Sky+ facilities.

Been with Sky Digi pretty much since they started giving the boxes away for free. I've a 1st generation black panasonic Sky box in my bedroom.

I have however had Sky+ pretty much since day 1 and paid a pretty penny for it as well.

Nice to get the installation for free without having to take multiroom.

Not interested in anytime so won't be going for a newer Sky + Box.

I am going to phone up and see if I can get the Sky HD box for £149 without the HD sub as I won't be buying my HD TV for a couple of months so no point in paying for that. The larger HDD would be nice to have though as I've only a 40 in my current Sky box.

Got the letter too and is booked for a weeks time. :)

I've had my V1 Sky+ box since they were available. Paid £299 for the box back then.

Been waiting patiently for the price to drop and glad it's finally happened.

I also had this letter today. Could someone please clarify the situation where I have a Sky+ box and subscribe to the Sports package? I did have the Movies until 3 days ago but cancelled after the reorganisation. I'll now be paying £37 per month which includes the Sky+ sub.

Will the new monthly charge be £37 + £10 for HD (£47pm)? If so then despite the half-price box offer and free install I'll give it a miss until the £10 sub is dropped.

    Thanks,

Hmmm...I was talking to a rep in selfridges on Saturday as he reckons to wait 3 months as the HD prices will drop as more HD channels come on line. maybe this is the start....,.

Thanks. I don't have multiroom so it's a £10 extra. Now that the football season is over I don't have any compelling reason to change to HD. Enjoy the extra pixels! :D

I was thinking about cancelling the movies too due to the new format, which I believe they have made a mess of.

    300gb in total.

140 for personal use and 160 for Anytime.

    I think that's it anyway.

I also got the letter. Two things holding me back...the £10 subs (esp. since I don't have movies, so get scr*wed for the whole sub even though only get some channels) and the woeful capacity of the HDD. 160Gb, way less than the 250Gb I have in my Sky+ (not interested in Anytime in the slightest, they need to allow an opt out and a diskspace reclaim). I guess I could offset the £150 "saved" on the £299 normal price and buy a 750Gb HDD to go in it.

Do you have the sport channels? If you just have normal channels then you are paying £10 for Sky+ so when you pay £10 for HD you get Sky+ for free.

You only pay extra if you currently get Sky+ for free.

I'm quite miffed, I've been a Sky customer for a number of years, have Sky+ and am dying to get HD but not had the letter, they would get a sale out of me straight away if they offered me this deal.

I rang up today as had got the letter this morning and the operator said "so what price did the letter say" when I said I had received the letter.

She said that loads of letters with different prices had been going out.

Just ring up if you fit the picture and you'll probably be fine.

Deal in mine was £149 plus free install.

But, you'd be cutting your nose off to spite your face a bit, if you currently get movies and sports, and cancel them just as you get chance to see them in high definition. Discovery Channel and History Channel are okay, but I really want to see the films and the cup finals in high def.

It was an observation, not a recommendation :)

For those that don't watch much on movies or sport but want to try HD then they may consider dropping a premium channel.

We have the movie channels and find that we rarely watch anything on them. This is probably because we have a limited amount of time to watch TV and we watch quite a few series. We have the movie channels only because Sky+ is free with them so it seems like good value.

If we decided to try HD we would drop the movie channels and go for a four mix because we will get Sky+ with the HD sub. Having said that though, since most of the programmes we watch are coming to an end we would normally watch more films. But with just 2 HD film channels we will probably go for a HD-DVD player instead and cancel Sky altogether.
