HD box went belly up the other night and none of the downloading or
other resets change it and the power light remains Red.

A Sky engineer is to come later this week (Sky waived the £65 fee)
and if he cannot repair which I doubt, they will supply another HD box.

Now, will they swap the HD box with a refurb Thomson box or will
they give me a free replacement ?

Anyone been through this process, I only ask as the customer services
girl confirmed that I could keep my old 'broken' box, which seems too goo to be true as I'll be able to get that one fixed (hopefully)

Replacement boxes supplied in the guarantee period are normally reconditioned.

thanks but my box is 18 months old.

The crux of the issue is that I know I'll get a replacement, just hoping that they will let me keep the old box.

Wondered what the score was for people who have had to have replacement boxes.

    Hi

They wont let you keep the broken box as it will be swap for the recon box.

But look on the good side you get a 3 month warranty on it.

If you get another problem just say it was never fixed from your original service call.

    Cheers

Thought as much but the customer services rep did say I could keep the old box.

Annoying as would have like to copy over some programmes of of the old hard disk before upgrading it.

    Hi

It is possible to take the HDD out and connect to your PC then copy what you want i believe you need copy+ software( Have a search on the forum to find out more i dont know a lot about it), bit stressfull tho, or copy it to DVD recorder but will be 625 PAL not HD.

    Good luck

They're due Saturday 19th between 12 and 5 so will no doubt arrive at 4.55.

    Fingers are crossed.

Alas, the installer was insistent on taking the old box back but on the plus side I got a brand new replacement.

Onwards to the SATA port being enabled.

I just reminded them that I'd got the HD box for the full 300 quid when it first came out and had been on the top package for 18 months and asked if they could remember this when trying to charge me the 65 quid fee or maybe their cancellations dept could help me out, so the girl spoke to her supervisor who then waived the fee.

    Good luck !

I just had a very similar thing happen to me..

Sky HD box packed up (wouldn't come out of standby), I replaced the hard drive with a spare and it started working again (but only for a week) and now gives message "SYSTEM FAULT - Sky + Recording and Playback unavailable".

I called Sky who said they can send someone out to replace it for £65.. I told them that the HD box was not bought from them (I had it under the £100 cashback Sony deal back in 2006) they said it was not a problem ? She then said that they will waive the £65 fee ?

Last night I put the old hard drive back in the box and the box is now working fine. Question is, what do I do now ?

I don't see how they can take my old box away when I didn't get it from Sky... do I cancel the engineer visit and keep my current box that is likely to go faulty again or get the free refurbished replacement ?
