Hi, just wanting to know what DVD recorder has the highest possible video/sound quality when recording to DVD, (as close as possible to HD as you can get)
Also, what is the best blank DVD discs?
Disc brand,
Recording speed on the discs,
R or RW,
+ or -,
And so that once recording/s are on the disc, how to get them so that they play on all players

Thanks in advance,

The dvd recorder I currently have is a Philips DVD player/recorder DVDR3480
Accepts dual media +/-, DL R/RW discs

Anyone??

DVD Recorders are all but extinct now. They have been largely replaced by Bluray recorders ( which will also record DVD's.)
This is the only current model : The DMR-BWT740 Details here.

These are twin HD tuner devices.

You may still be able to find a single SD tuner DVD recorder: The DMR-EX86

As these are Japanese origin machines, you would be recommended to use -R type discs.
All other disc types are supported - but not fully (...in common with all far eastern machines)
e.g. recording on '+' type discs of any sort limits your recordings to 4:3 aspect ratio.

Brand of discs is not a useful guide. The factory it is made in counts for everything.
The best are anything made in the Taiyo Yuden factory in Japan.
They are sold under the JVC brand and also under Taiyo Yuden itself. Some other brands can be made there too.

Discs must be finalised to be playable elsewhere.

Modern recorders (Bluray) record in a completely different way to traditional DVDR's.
Different considerations are required for playability elsewhere.

You can read about some of these issues in this sticky thread.

The discs I've been recording onto using the Philips DVD recorder are;
Verbatim DVD+R,
Maxell DVD+R,
Maxell DVD+RW,

Does this mean I have been using the wrong ones?

No- They are the correct ones for European origin machines. i.e. Philips.

So, providing I make sure I finalise the discs, they should play in other players?
