When the Sky+ unit is in standby mode is the fan and drive still running. If so is it particularly noisy? I have read comments that some units can be noisy when in use but I don't know about when it's in standby mode. Thank's Malcom.

If the fan is running at any time then it's way too hot and the unit would have to be moved or given better ventilation.
The hard drive does spin all the time and it actually makes it more reliable since the strain imposed on the mechanism getting to speed is removed.
The very early SKY+ had hard drives that were prone to excessive noise and they were replaced fairly quickly and all subsequent SKY+'s have quieter hard drives.
I believe the SKY+ version that had the noisey drives was model 9F2003.

I insisted that Sky replaced my box, which they did. Now can hardly hear it.

    Regards
