Had Sky+ installed yesterday. Hooked up the optical output to my Denon 3801 amp, enabled DD output on the Sky+ box but haven't yet had a DD5.1 signal. Tried all the movie channels last night and not a squeak!

I have double checked that the DD setting on the Sky+ box is correct and the amp is locking onto a digital signal but the DD5.1 signal doesn't seem to be there, only PCM.

    Any help appreciated.

As far as I was aware I don't think all the movie channels have the DD sound.

I think it is just one or two of the box office channels and also Sky Premier. Although not every movie on Sky Premier is in DD. It is just a few.

I would wait till the next big movie premier on Sky and try it then.

Dolby Digital is broadcast on Sky Premier WIDESCREEN and the Box Office WIDESCREEN channels only.

No other channels at the moment broadcast in DD.

Make sure you have set the Services / System Setup / Sound has Dolby D set for the Optical Output.

At the moment, 2pm, channel 305 is broadcasting DD in 2.0 stereo.

i don't have a optical cable yet for mine so don't realy know but a film that has a D should be in dd if it is'nt i don't know why . a lot of films tend to have the D in the info though on all the film chanels

Most Premier Widescreen films are broadcast in DD. You can record in DD as well (it might be obvious to others however this particular feature blew me away)!

The D means "Dolby Surround" where the Stereo sound has extra information encoded into the matrix which require a Dolby Pro Logic Amp to decode and use with extra speakers. The D has been in use with the Sky EPG long before the Sky+ came into use.

More information on Dolby Surround can be found at http://dolby.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/d...mlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTYxJnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li= "What’s the difference between Pro Logic, Pro Logic II, and Dolby Digital 5.1?" and http://www.dolby.com/tech/#head2 "Dolby Surround, Dolby Surround Pro Logic"

nope, though I knew the Sky+ could do this, I still see it as a kick ass feature.

Shame you only get DD on the 3 channels when a lot of the content on Sky One and of course the films are made using DD.

    Still, maybe in the future.

    Regards,

    Guy

Tried Sky Premier Widescreen last night and all the right lights lit up! It was only Road Trip (hardly pushes the barriers of DD5.1) but at least it proved everything is connected up OK.

    Thanks guys

leading on from this what's peoples views on DD via Sky. I was watching Three Kings on Premier WS last night (or may have been night before) and the 5.1 was pretty rank...maybe it was an off day..

all i've managed to get so far is DD 2.0 Stereo, I presume it is a very limited number of movies that are in DD5.1 How do you know for sure that a film will be broadcast in 5.1? (I want to test my system to see what the quality of sky+ 5.1 is like.

    cheers

CH999 has a list of all the DD5.1 movies on Premier W/S.
No time listings so I assume either the movie is only on once or it's in DD5.1 for every showing that month.

I too have noticed that the DD quality is not that good, Space Cowboys was very poor and Road Trip was awful. Am waiting for them to repeat X Men - that should be a real test for the sound quality.

I don't know what the film is like but I caught the beginning of Titan AE the other day and the sound was awsome! Those helicopter things at the start were amazing!
