    Hello AV Forums

Whilst having Sky Digital for ages, i've never really wondered, about the tech info, like the dab radio stations are mostly in 128kbps and some like bbc radio three are higher, (i believe thats correct), as i've read it in an Home Cinema Mag, I could of mis-understood.

I would like to know other specifications also, just to feed mine and others curiousity really.

    Thanks to all whom reply.
    Regards, Adam C.

I had a look at the real-time bit-rate within the MPEG transport stream (I have a transport stream reader)

    Radio 3 : 190 kbps
    Radio Wales : 110kbps
    Radio 2 : 200 kbps
    RTE1 : 100 kbps
    WRN : 100 kbps
    Radio Caroline : 70 kbps

Interestingly Radio caroline was the only one with the Max Bitrate Flag set - but this was meaningless as it was set at 3.95 Mbps !

This was just a snapshot tuning to a couple of the muxes with radio channels therein during a quick 5 minutes.

Readings taken using Twinhan VP-1020 PCI card + registered version of TSReader http://www.coolstf.com/tsreader

(Can email the TSReader screengrab for specific muxes to you if it means anything to you).

Hi Chris, I like all the bit-rate stuff, what's ITV, Sky One, and some of the BBC channels averaging and can you tell the resolution of the chans e.g. 720x576 etc?

    Nice one!

I had a look at a few of the relevant muxes between 1220 and 1235 AM (wee small hours).

On a BBC Mux : BBC NI fastest @ 4.70 Mbps.
    Then BBC News24 - 4.19
    BBC3 - 3.57 BBC1 London - 3.20 BBC2 England - 1.9 Mbps

ITV Mux : varied between 2.67-2.75 over the regions

    Sky1 : Varying at quite an instantaneous rate between 2.3 - 2.8.
(total Mux was 35 Mbps on this one).

    Only BBC3 gave resolution info in the headers - 720 x 576i, 16:9.

This took quite a long time to compile :-(

Really is appaling for a public service broadcaster having VCD braodcasts...

Sky - I expected nothing less, bad-terrible-bad, really is the quality benchmark (lowest) for the industry!

    Thanks Chris for your time!!!
