I have never heard of an optical cable this length. Off the top of my head I am thinking that optical to coaxial with a Maplins convertor would be a good option, as coaxial cables are much easily aquired in longer lengths.

Don't know much about use of fibre optics for audio, but in IT you can have fibre links up to 2.5km, so I hardly think 8m should be a problem for the cable technology.

I've seen 10m cables advertised here

Not very expensive, so can't speak for the quality but I'm sure you could probably hunt down a similar length of TOSlink cable from a well-known manufacturer.
