    Hello all,

I recently moved into a house which has a dish for sky digital. I have recently aquired a digital box and hope to set it up one of these days.

    My question is:

Does Sky do any "Free to Air" channels, ie if I dont subscribe can I still get the benefit of good quality picture plus a few free channels thrown in?

If the above is the case...Do I still need to attach my box to the telephone?

Also how do I go about getting a new viewing card, coz the guy I got the box from can't find his!

    Any and all replies welcomed!

    Thanks

    Rooikat

There are some free to view channels. BBC, ITV, Ch4, Ch5 and a small number of others.

    No

Ring the BBC digital line. i can't recall the number but it is apparantly on the BBC website somewhere.

There are very few FTA channels on the SKY D platform however there are plenty of FTV(Free To View) channels.
These require a smartcard which is free to all UK TV license payers, just ring the number on this webpage and give them a few details and you will be sent one.

You do not need a phone connection for your digibox you've aquired, that is only required if you get a digibox from SKY on a subsidised deal.
A phone line can make ordering PPV easier but you can still order movies etc by ringing SKY directly.

Many thanks for your prompt replies!

I found the number for the free to view card & will order one ASAP.
I have been browsing through the previous threads & have found a few threads on "Stealth Cards" These must be hooky coz the prices are really low. What would using one of these do to one's box? Surely SKY arent stupid, there must be a way of detecting this.

skydigital has not been cracked, so anyone selling something suggesting it is, is telling lies.

That site talks about Videocrypt which was the system used on SKY analogue, a platform the was hacked to bits.

SKY Digital uses VideoGuard and has not been cracked or hacked.
Rumours of course circulate but only to persuade gullible fools to part with their cash for useless junk:)

Does that mean then that 'Stealth Cards' do not work as advertised?
