I have got sky+ which uses Dolby Pro Logic 2 for stereo audio sources connected to my Pioneer NS DV88 home cinema system which is only Dolby Pro Logic.

Will stereo sound (Not 5.1) be in Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Pro Logic 2 when played through this system. I assume only Dolby Pro Logic?

    Regards

Sky+ only ouputs 5.1 on the movies....the rest just gets treated as stereo.

If 5.1's not working, you need to switch the input on the channel with the optical in to "optical". Can't remember exactly what it is you do but it's in the manual....

AFAIK the main difference between PL and PLII is that PL is only 4 channels (front L&R, centre and Rear) and PLII has 5 channels (front L&R, centre and Rear L&R). Obviously your decoder will only give you the single rear channel as opposed to the two discrete rear channels for PLII regardless of how its encoded.

Thanks for the response Deeko, but I don't think I made myself clear.

5.1 sound is OK but I was wondering, does the Pro Logic 2 on the sky+ box override the pro logic (Not 2) on my pioneer for stereo sound.

It is connected via optical cable.

    Regards

    Hiya,

As Deeko says, SKY+ does not output in Pro Logic II.

SKY Movies 1,2 & 3 all output in Dolby Digital - this is 5.1 for some movies, or Dolby Surround for everything else.
Every other channel on SKY is output in stereo.
So you're getting pretty much what the rest of us get anyway - only difference for people for Pro Logic II or DTS Neo amps is that it "creates" an extra channel to simulate 5.1.

    Ian.

I am sure my Sky+ box has pro logic 2 built in. I will check when I get home from work.

Just checked, it says it has Pro Logic 2 built in. Therefore, does it convert stereo audio to pro logic 2 and will this be maintained even though my amp is not pro logic 2 only ordinary pro logic.

Your amp can only process what it is capable of, regardless of the source.

No PL2 on amp, then no PL2 fullstop.

It's like having a 5.1 dvd player feeding a pro-logic amp. You will never get 5.1 out of it.
