I am thinking about getting this film, is it any good?
should I buy it is the main question?
the film has mixed reviews, but personally i thought it was great. it's a no-brainer with superb visuals and spectacular sound. theres a 3 disc special edition with dts sound on cd-wow, that one would be your best bet.
Easy answer -
Do you have a fondness for 1940's serials like Flash Gordon & Buck Rogers? Did you like The Rocketeer?
If yes - you'll probably get a kick out of this. If not, you'll probably hate it with a passion.
Yeah I do
I notice that is region 3, will it work on my dvd?
this is the one i got
I did get it from amazon so it should be ok as its been modified to accept multi-region, could someone just clarify this for me please
Yes - multiregion players can play all the regions (normally 1-6)
The soundtrack is quite nice too
Enjoy it - it's good fun!
the only thing about this region 3 one you might need to double check is the soundtrack. on cd-wow it says its dts 6.1 and doesnt list any other tracks, so if thats the case you'll need either a dvd player or an av receiver with a dts decoder for the sound to work.
Marc - it's sound - it has a Dolby Digital 6.1 soundtrack too - so it's safe ! Am even tempted to get the R2 Japanese for a comparrison
Glad to see you agreed with "Twisted"
yeah you totally nailed it, that was exactly what i thought when i watched the movie.
Yeah, the film does a good job of recreating those old serials: bad dialogue, pointless romantic sub-plot, and a goofy storyline, it's all there.
Still, it's entertaining for what it is. The only real problem I had was with the direction of the action sequences. There's no life there, which took away any drama for me. It was like watching a series of still photos, which -- although they looked good -- conveyed no tension or excitement.
my dvd player does play dts sound
I had seen the trailers, and loving the 30's and 40's film serials etc... decided to buy it.
I loved it - it is extremely stylised, with a look all its own.
Ok the dialogue was trashy - but completely taken from the serials of the time.
Some cracking SFX (come to think of it - the whole film is one big SFX!) - look out for King Kong's cameo - blink and you'll miss it - he's climbing up the Empire State building in a background shot!
