On Saturday morning reset the unit (taking plug out of mains), after it decided not to recognise any of the signals the remote was sending it (has done this on one occasion before so knew by resetting it would clear the problem). Switched back on only for it to automatically go into a System Software update. After approx 1 hour and 20 mins (never ever taken that long before), it finished the process and allowed me to switch it back on as per normal.

Sunday morning was viewing a Sky+ recording, when I stopped it and punched up one of the sport channels. All I got was sound and no picture. Nothing a quick reset won't sort, I said. On swiching it back on from the mains, it goes into the 'Updating System Software' process. This happened on Sunday morning. It is now Monday evening and it's still in this process.

The 'Updating Sytem Software' screen comes into view, as all four of the lights at the front come on. After about an hour, the lights go out the screen goes black. It'll then momentarilly go into standby (just the red light on) and then slip back into the whole 'Updating System Software' process again.

Please, please, please can anyone help?

My Sky+ unit is a Pace. Model number - BSKYB3000. I think my box is a version 1 (43cm is it's longest side, the case is silver as is the front with the exception of a black panel in the middle where the four lights and the card reader are situated).

You will need to perform "housekeeping" You can do this as follows:

You can do this by pressing services 401 Select and choosing the housekeeping option.

WARNING - THIS WILL WIPE THE CONTENTS OF THE HARD DISK

This should fix the problem

Can't get into the system to do this mate. That's the point. If I could (the box would have to stop it's endless cycle of downloading the system software first) then I'd give your suggestion a try. Thanks anyway fella.

Can anyone tell me if the box has a CMOS (like in a P.C). I'm thinking along the lines that if it has, maybe resetting this would cure the problem. Can anyone confirm this or am I talking b*ll*x?

You could try doing a hard reset by switching off from the mains. Remove your card power up again whilst holding down the backup and select buttons on the box not the remote. Hold them down for 20-30 seconds until all the lights come on. If you've connected to your TV via scart you should have a message about updating on your screen. Wait until your box shuts down itself and then switch back on and replace your card.

I hope this works for you.
