    Hi guys,

I heard that if i bat my eyelids at the Sky installation guy (and maybe show nim a bit of leg! :D ) He might offer me a choice of Sky boxes. Is there a good one to go for? I am presuming the Sony is the best. Am I wrong?

    Advice would be appreciated! ;)

I beleive the current Panasonic boxes are the best.

Your best option for a box choice is to get Sky installed by an independant installer rather than Sky themsleves. Much better service (just costs a bit more).

I think it depends on the individual who turns up to install your digibox. At the end of the day most of them are simply paid to carry out the install and don't care who gets what box, even though they are told which to give to who.

I was lucky that I got a Panny box, which (at the time) matched my TV and DVD player.

Had they offered me an Amstrad, I'd have refused the install.

sony looks the best by far.
the picture is similar, but the panny menus work quicker.
i have both & i would say accept either & if possible none of the others.

I beleive sony is the only box (other than sky+) that offers digital sound connection, so if that is important to you, sony is the one to go for (although still cant get DD 5.1 through this sadly). I also think I'm right in saying Grundig is the only one with S video connection, if that happens to be a requirement.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I have a sony amp which has an optical connection at the back, so if I get a Sony digibox I could connect it that way - will I notice a huge improvement in sound quality?

I have mind connected that way, and feel it sounds better than via traditional analog connections, its just so frustrating that it doesnt get the DD 5.1 feed for movies.
