Strange query this but wondered whether you could help.

I live in a block of flats that shares a communal satelite. I know the access point in my flat (for want of a better description) only has outputs necessary for vanilla sky digital but could I still get hold of a sky+ box to use its generic PVR functions e.g. record the channel I'm watching without bothering with all of the other features that Sky+ would otherwise provide?

If this is possible how would I go about it?

Trouble is you need both tuners connected for the sky+ pvr to work correctly, so you would need two independent feeds from the lnb.

I can understand why if I wanted to watch another channel or use time-shift then two tuners would be required, but surely one is all that is needed to record the channel currently being viewed/selected?

Is anyone actually using a sky+ box with only one feed going in to it with any success?

My experience in this is that when i moved my digibox it was further away than the cables so as a temp measure to watch the footy i cut one and joined it to the other so i had one feed.....

    It dont work mate.

There is no guarantee wot tuner is used, and when i tried to record wot i was watching (i had to swap the cable to do that) it didnt record as it was using the other tuner.
