Sky BB speeds going up soon

Hello

Ive read this on other forums

Unconfirmed.

Rumour has it that there are to be some changes to Sky's current broadband offerings.

Currently,

Sky Base - 2gb Monthly usage
Sky Mid - 40gb Monthly usage
Sky Max - Unlimited Monthly usage

As from 22nd June, allegedly these will then be known as:

Sky Broadband Unlimited - 20Mbps Down/1.3Mbps up
Sky Broadband Everyday - 10Mbps Down/600Kbps up

But its not been confirmed yet.

Its good news for people with max maybe not so good if your on MID?

They may be 10GB month cap on mid down from 40 if so I think many will leave and go to O2 or Orange BB.

You will still be limited by the phone line performance - I get 5Mbit because of some interference.

Haha damn I wish this would be true but it doesn't seem likely... Look at those upload speeds!
What about them? ADSL2+ can manage up to 2.5Mb on upload. Even standard ADSL can manage 1Mb upload, just BT et al have always kept upload speed lower than the standard allows.

I think this will turn out to be true but there will be winners & losers depending on your current speed/service.

Well, business broadband ADSL Max packages offer 832kbps upload, but I suspect it's probably fairly expensive as most home ISPs opt for the slower 448kbps.

As you say though, ADSL2+ is capable of 2.5Mbps.

I'm on the Mid product and I must admit the reduction in useage limit from 40Gb to 10Gb has cheesed me off somewhat. We'll see what happens when people start going over the new limit, additional charges, offers to move upto the Max product etc. To me it seems a breach of the contract we signed up for but I guess they are giving us the option to ditch them if we wish. It could affect me as I work from home in addition to my own usage and I have a fair amount of traffic to and fro.

I just connected up to 'base' 2 weeks ago, so is it being completely done away with...? I haven't had any word about this from Sky.....

Where does it say the allowance is dropping to 10gb on mid/everyday?

Its still showing as 40gb on the signup page (correct as of 22/6)

Sky Broadband Everyday:
•
Up to 10Mb download speed (depending on location)
•
Up to 600Kb upload speed and 40GB monthly usage allowance
•
One-off £30 set-up fee (waived for new customers joining Sky TV and taking Sky Broadband at the same time)²

Have look over on Skyuser and if you got your magazine their's a pamphlet that came with has a section about changes to mid confirms it there in black and white

Yep the speed is going up but for people on mid, like myself, the montly usage cap is going down to 10GB:thumbsdow.

Has anyone gone over the limit before and if they have by how much?

I never knew you got a letter with the Sky mag, it usually goes straight in the bin unopened!

75% drop in allowance on Mid is very annoying....would think of upgrading but as only get 6Mb on Mid at the moment there was no point going to Max.

Anyone know if Mid was only using ADSL rather than ADSL2+ as that might allow more...

Anyone know when these changes are coming in on the packages?
Think ill change if there going to cap me at 10gb or ill drop down to the base service.

The changes have already happened. The new packages came into effect June 22nd, and new users signing up since then have got the new packages.

Does it only apply to new customers or all? I got no letter about the change.

Cheers Matt

Anyone who is a new user and signs up are on it immediatly.

Us existing customers there was a letter in the sky magazine explaining and basically what is happening is over the months they will be going through us existing customers and switching us over unless you have requested otherwise. They say they will send a email to your sky account 3 days before they start switching you over so you are prepared.

But it is certianly over a period of months.

They have to change the IP profile on your line to enable your maximum theoretical speed to be 10/20mb.

Also, for Mid I believe they have to enable ADSL2 now rather than just ADSL.

None of this takes long, but they have to ask BT to do it, so it takes a while for anything to actually happen :(.
