Question Sky+ App / won't detect box - wireless on Virgin

Hi all,

I've recently moved house and for reasons I won't go into couldn't get Sky internet, after the TV was installed. In my previous place I used a Sky Internet and the normal router which allowed me to control the Sky with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
However... Now that I have moved, I have the Virgin Broadband and a wireless adaptor for the Sky+ box, the phone can't find it.

Any suggestions?

Your Sky box and your phone need to be on the same Wi-Fi network be it 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.

I've had plenty of issues with the Sky+ app and box with my Virgin broadband, I think it's just crap firmware in the Virgin hub, many reboots and using a wired connection to the Sky box and it eventually works (most of the time) now.

I had thought that might be the only answer, should I use power line or will it need a direct line from the modem?

Funny thing is it worked OK on the first try....!

Would it make a difference to the answer JayCee? (Not being a wise ass, just totally clueless!)

It makes my answer redundant.
A direct ethernet connection to the VM router would be best if you can do it.

Thing is, i am not sure what the original band would have been, I have the smart switch 'on' to go between them. Also (you may know the answer off the top of your head) does the Sky wireless adapter run on one or the other?

There is a long thread on the Sky help forums about the problem. It might be worth having a read and seeing if any of the others have other suggestions. Since I got mine working via Ethernet cable I haven't really been following it.
