sky+ and tivo?

    hi guys, I am completely new to this area... just some questions...

    1. I want sky+ but dont have a phone line nearby to plug it into... what will I miss out on?

    2. tivo? harddrive based recorders right? how do these work? subscription needed? phone line?

    1)The SKY+ contract requires a phone connection. There is a grey area though if the hardware is installed by someone other than a SKY installer. Without a phone connection it will still function as the EPG data and updates are done via the satellite, you will lose out on some of the interactive features and the remote ordering of PPV and SBO programming.

    2)TIVO is a Hard Drive recorder that can record from an external source either a SKY digibox/Cable box or DTT. A monthly or one off subscription is required to take advantage of it's daily updated TV listings which in turn power the advanced software features. Without the subscription it is limited to basic recording and live pause. It needs a phone line to recieve the daily listings, uses a free phone number.
