    Hi,

My original sky dish is now causing problems as for some reason the signal strength and quality are less than 50% ?the wind moved it slightly but it is too far away and too dngerous to mess with as i have had an extension built.

Well i put up a new dish on the side of my house and signal quality and strength>50% but bbc2 and itv no reception-says no signal weired!

    Any advice please?

Azz (Ps does say on banner what should be on)

Well the BBC and ITV channels are on Astra 2D which can cause reception problems for people with misaligned dishes and/or a digibox/lnb conflict, I seem to recall some Panasonic digiboxes didn't like some Cambridge LNB's and there were some problems with some Grundig LNB's(or so I have read).

Are BBC2 and the ITV channels the only ones you are having reception issues with since you could also have a problem with the LNB switching polarities and bands but they should occur on more than those few channels.

Azz - which digibox do you have? - make and model number please!

Only BBC2 missing? No others? Sure?

Could be the digibox (depending on make & model) or the LNB.

Fill in the missing details and I should be able to point you in the right direction.

Ive looked through sky and yes you are right the odd channel is missing

eg bbc2 itv ary cbbc etc

The box is an old panasonic box-gold coloured (5years old)before the new silver one. Sorry i am not at home and do not know the model number

So you think i should change the LNB?

If it's the gold one it's a DSB30. Highly unlikely to be the box in that case.

Change the LNB. Chances are it's a 'Cambridge' one. Should be OK then.

    Hope this helps.

Its definitely not the box as the old dish does have the channels when used through this box but the signal strength and quality are <50%.

How much should i pay for a LNB?

I upgraded my sky to SKY+ recently myself and all went well.
Not sure if its co-incidence but ever since ITV has on and off been misbehaving. The picture breaks up and i get a hig shreeking noise.

The SKY+ box is a pretty new Amstrad and the LNB a skyware quad.

Singal strength is 50%+ for both inputs and all other channels are perfect.

Is it the equipment or ITV signal ?

    Any help appreciated
    Paul

The "shreeking" is a known fault on Amstrad Sky+ boxes. Get on to Sky about it.

Although the box is realtively new (6months) I am not the original owner
as i bought it on ebay.

I can try but its unlikely sky are going to be sympathetic.

Anyone know of anyone whos successfully had anything done about this ?

Does it only shreek on ITV ? Just noticed that your signal strengths are a bit low - they should be nearer 80%. Your dish may be out of alignment.

Yeah, its just ITV, its happened about 3 times in a month and appears to last for a while, i end up watching another channel

I will check my original Sony digibox running off another feed upstairs for signal strength and check it when it occurs again.

I can always try ringing sky but thats about as exciting a prospect as going for a vasectomy (and i should know !)
