Sky+ and phone connection

I have a Sky + box and a seperate sky digibox in another room in the house. I am not able to easily connect the second box to a phone line and wondered if this would make any difference. Why does you digibox need to be connected to a phone line ? Do sky "buzz" the line regularly to check it's still connected.? What do they do if it isn't

According to the T&C's if the SKY+ was installed by a SKY installer then a phone connection is required even though there is no subsidy but SKY have the right to collect viewing data so it would need a phone connection.
The second digibox if using a FTV smartcard, no smartcard or carrying a FULL PRICE subscription only needs to be connected to a phone line for the first 12 months of the contract.

Now if you had the "mirror" subscription which is a second smartcard that carries the same channel package as your original smartcard for £12(Old Price) or the current £15 then BOTH digiboxes would have to be connected to the same phone line.

SKY do very little checkign on a standard digibox phone line but religiously check the "mirror" phone lines. Either way you will always get a phone call or warnign letter before any action was taken.
