    Hi
A friend if mine is thinking of getting sky. Obviously she will get a free box and be tied in for a year, if at the end of her contract she wants to ditch sky and just go with freesat using their equipment will she be able to use the sky+ facility. They used to charge £10 a month but I note that is now dropped for sky customers, but as in essence she would be a non sky customer, do they still charge you.
Bit of a daft question, but want to give her all the facts
    Thanks

Sky+ recordings are not like VHS recordings, they are in a proprietory encryption and, although you may own the box, you don't own the software to record/playback. That's what the charge is for - a licence fee for all intents and purposes.

Freesat is the company that exists to provide an EPG to broadcasters of free channels that pay to be on it.
A Sky machine cannot receive that EPG.
