Can anyone tell me whether Sky transmit their programmes so that the surround sound features of my DVD system can be used ?

If a program was created with DS/Prologic embedded in it's stereo soundtrack then it will be present assuming a channel on SKY is broadcasting in stereo, a suitable amp with be able to use the format. Pro Logic II amps can work wonders with plain stereo soundtracks although it works better with a surround soundtrack.
SKY+ supports DD5.1 (Well sometimes) and your DVD systems amp will need an optical input or a coaxial input (with a converter).
